About Rock River Relics
Background
I have been seriously interested in the collecting of prehistoric artifacts for
15 years now. I regularly study the local material types especially
Burlington, Moline, and Galena cherts. I am familiar with many material
types from all over the state of Illinois, Eastern Iowa and Northern Missouri.
I enjoy studying material types, flaking patterns, and overall construction
styles off all artifacts especially early archaic point types and ground stone
tools. I am a member of the Illinois Archaeological Society, Hawkeye State
Archaeological Society (Iowa), Genuine Indian Relic Society (GIRS),
Authentic Artifact Collectors Association (AACA), Illinois Association for
the Advancement of Archaeology (IAAA), and Arrowpack. I attend Illinois
and Hawkeye State artifact shows regularly and enjoy talking rocks and
artifacts with almost anyone. I also regularly post on the PROS message
board, Arrowpack, and The Treasure Depot message boards.
Experience
I have been collecting Indian artifacts and relics in Northwest Illinois for over
20 years and have been seriously into collecting for 15 years. I routinely
set-up at shows in both Iowa and Illinois and like to talk rocks with almost
anyone. I enjoy studying local material and point types and try to restrict
what I sell to the states of Iowa, Illinois and Missouri. I do have a few
exceptions but that is usually because of buying a collection or multiple
pieces from and individual. I have studied several typology guides and
material guides and try to list every item as accurately as possible. I am
most familiar with Burlington, Galena, Moline, Warsaw Tabular, and Avon
cherts and also a variety of hardstone pieces which are commonly found
around my home. I also enjoy looking at collections from all over the country
but prefer to stick to artifacts and materials that I find while walking the
fields. I am a member of Arrowpack, GIRS, Illinois Archaeological Society,
and Iowa Archaeological society.
Tools
I use a stereo microscope and UV analysis (black light) on every artifact
that I sell and guarantee them to be authentic for life. I prefer to use several
different typology books or the opinions of others to describe an item. I will
always try and identify and artifact to the fullest of my ability when listing it
for sale.
